According to our research, 85% of parents believe large companies should subsidise childcare costs.
The availability and affordability of childcare is a big issue, with 46% of those surveyed stating that the cost of childcare in relation to their salary was the biggest obstacle when returning to work. Flexibility was the second largest at 28% with just 15% stating separation from their child as the hardest barrier when returning to work.
Although 52% said that they were happy to wait until their child was between the ages of one and two before returning to work, 65% would return sooner if they could access more flexible childcare arrangements.
Our “parents at work” packages (PAW) empower your team to be their best in the office AND at home.
You can’t recruit in 2019 and ignore parents! As more millennials become parents or consider growing their families, companies need to think about more robust benefits packages, to reduce absenteeism and burnout, save money, and promote more women to leadership positions. One of the most impactful things you can do for parents is offer a monthly or annual childcare subsidy. This can have an incredible impact on retention of employees with young families, or those who are planning to have them.
“Pregnancy, maternity leave and the first few years of parenthood can all be tricky. But they are a tiny fraction of a career that could span 40 years or more. Investing time and energy in helping women – and men as they take paternity leave – to navigate this process has huge long term benefits.” - Lisa Unwin, She’s Back
A returning parent is not walking back into the same context that they left, especially at a fast paced start-up. Not to mention their own personal minefield they are navigating. Working from Cuckooz Nest during maternity leave allows your staff to feel supported by their employee whilst being surrounded by a community of working parents; both of which will ease their eventual return to work, and in some cases allow for an earlier return.
The years’ following an employee’s return to work are just as important. According to a recent survey more than a third of women felt so unsupported and isolated on their return that they considered handing in their notice. The current churn-rate for women in the UK within the first year of work post-childbirth is an astonishing 43%.
